Abstract

429,983. Valves; cylinders. CHAUDE, B. J. A., 35, Avenue Foch, La Garenne, Seine, France. Dec. 10, 1934, No. 35423. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi)] A spherical valve 5 formed with recesses 9, 9<1> is rotated at onequarter speed so as to control exhaust at 6, inlet at 7, and a sparking-plug at 8. The piston 11 is hollowed to the same radius as the valve, the latter being arranged so that there is no clearance at the end of the exhaust stroke as shown in Fig. 2, but a combustion space is provided, as shown in Fig. 4, at the end of the compression stroke. The recesses 9, 91 and the exhaust port 6 may be curved to facilitate the flow of the gases therethrough. Packing-rings are fitted to the valve about an axis at right angles to the valve shaft 4.
