Abstract
430,104. Winding yarns. WILDT & CO., Ltd., and LEEDHAM, L. H., Adelaide Works, Leicester. Feb. 1, 1934, No. 3401. [Class 120 (ii)] In a yarn-winding machine in which the yarn is traversed on the bobbin by one or more guides carried by a nut engaging a screwed spindle mounted on the lifter rail of the machine and the nut is advanced relatively to the screw as the winding proceeds to build the package, means are provided for rotating both the nut and screw independently of each other ; the nut and screw are preferably rotated in opposite directions so as to give a fine advance of the nut relatively to the screw and the rate of advance may be adjustable. A movable yarn guide may be connected to a stop motion device for the screw and nut, the guide being held in position by the running yarn to maintain the stop motion device inoperative and permitting the device to become operative upon breakage of the yarn. As shown the screw 10, Figs. 1 and 2, and a rod 29 provided with gear teeth are rotatably mounted in arms 11 fixed to a rod 12 mounted on the lifter rail 13 and the nut 15 comprises a twopart casing 20, 200, Fig. 4, embracing the screw 10 and rod 29 and housing flanged sleeves 16, 17 loose on the screw ; the flange 19 of the sleeve 17 is formed with gear teeth meshing with the rod 29 and carries a pin 22 on which is mounted an arcuate plate 23 carrying an upstanding pin 24 engaging a recess in the flange 18 of the sleeve 16 which is fixed to a knurled head 21 and by turning the head in one direction or the other, the plate 23 may be moved so that its bevelled edge is engaged with or disengaged from the screw 10. The rod 29 and screw 10 carry ratchet wheels 30, 39 respectively and these wheels are engaged by pawls 36, 37 pivoted on an arm 32 loose on a cylindrical extension of the rod 29 and carrying an arm 31 drawn by a spring 50 into engagement with a fixed cam surface 53 so that, as the screw 10 and rod 29 are reciprocated by the lifter rail, the arm 31 is oscillated to actuate the pawls and cause opposite rotations of the screw 10 and rod 29 with a consequent differential rise of the nut 15 up the screw. The pawls may be arranged to rotate the screw 10 and rod 29 in the same direction to give an additive rise to the nut 15 or a gear may be arranged between the toothed flange 19 and rod 29 for the same purpose. One or both of the ratchet wheels may be provided with bluff plates which may be adjusted to vary the rate of advance of the nut ; as shown, the wheels are provided with plates 40, 41 respectively. The yarn 60 is drawn from a supply under a guide 58 and over a guide 27 projecting from the lower end of the nut 15, the guide 58 being carried by an arm 57 on a bracket 56 pivoted on an arm 55 fixed to the rod 12 with an abutment 59 on the arm projecting into proximity to the arm 32; should the yarn break, the guide 58 falls and the abutment 59 moves behind the arm 32 to prevent the spring return thereof and consequently any further advance of the nut is prevented until the yarn has been pieced up. According to the Provisional Specification, the yarn guide may be carried by the screw which is then advanced through the nut maintained stationary relatively to the lifter rail.
