Abstract
525,058. Winding yarns &c. REINERS, W. Feb. 13, 1939, No. 4692. Convention date, March 5, 1938. [Class 120 (ii)] In a cop winding machine having a helicallygrooved traversing drum the drum is moved axially in relation to the cop, or the cop in relation to the drum, by mechanism actuated by a feeler wheel driven by contact with the cop, the wheel being also given an automatic to and fro movement for rendering the contact between the wheel and cop intermittent. As shown in Fig. 1, the cop is held between a cupped head 9 and a collar 8 on the spindle 3 which is driven by the friction wheels 1, 2 and drives a shaft 12 having flattened sides engaging a flattened bore in the helically-grooved traversing drum 13 so that the drum is driven by and is slidable along the shaft. The drum has a single groove controlling the traverse in one direction, the traverse in the other direction being due to the inclination in which the yarn is fed from a guide 14 and being limited by a deflector 15. A boss at one end of the drum is engaged by a slotted extension of a bracket 16 projecting from a slide 18 mounted on a screwed spindle 19 and a guide bar 20; the spindle and bar being connected by arms 21, 22 and the bar being rotatably adjustable in a socket 24 at one end to vary the distance of the feeler wheel from the cop tube, and, at the other end, carrying a boss 44 which is pressed by a spring 45 against a cam 43 on a shaft 42 driven by worm gearing from the shaft 3. The feeler wheel 23 is held in engagement with the threads of the shaft 19 by a spring and when the wheel frictionally engages the cop, it is fed to the right along the shaft 19 and carries the traversing drum with it, but due to the reciprocation of the shaft the wheel does not contact with the cop except at the end of its stroke towards the left. The yarn F from the supply to the guide 14 runs under a detector lever 4 and if the yarn breaks, the detector lever tilts against a rod 5 which is moved to actuate a lever 6 which moves the wheel 2, against the action of a spring 7, out of contact with the wheel 1 to stop the machine. In a modification, the feeler wheel instead of the bar 20 is mounted for adjustment relatively to the cop tube. In the form shown in Fig. 5 the screwed shaft is replaced by a cam-actuated rack 19 gearing with a pinion splined on a shaft carrying a worm wheel 52 engaging a worm 51 on the elongated hub of the feeler wheel 23 which is mounted on a boss projecting from one end of the traversing drum 13; the pinion can be withdrawn from engagement with the rack 19 to enable the frame carrying the drum and feeler wheel to be moved back to the critical winding position. In another form the feeler wheel is mounted on a vertical shaft in the frame carrying the traversing drum and the shaft carries a pinion engaging a stationary rack. Specification 366,879 is referred to.
