Abstract

442,700. Winding threads. SCHARERNUSSBAUMER & CO., Erlenbach, Switzerland. March 2, 1935, No. 6620. Convention date, March 3, 1934. [Class 120 (ii)] In a winding-machine in which the thread guide is advanced at each reciprocation thereof by the contact of a feeler, by which it is carried, with the growing package, movement of the thread guide is prevented except at the end of each inward traverse by a friction locking clamp, which, by engagement with a fixed stop at the end of such traverse, releases the guide for its advancement. As shown, the thread guide 23 is carried by a plate 18 secured to the end of a guide rod 16 projecting from a hollow bar 11 and connected thereto by the friction locking clamp 14, 15 and spring 13 ; the plate 18 also carries a member 19 in which the feeler 20 is rotatably mounted. The member 19 with the feeler 20 and thread guide is fed outwards along a bar 6 by contact of the feeler with the thread coils B but such feeding movement can only take place when the member 14 of the clamp 14, 15 contacts with a fixed, but adjustable, stop 17, the clamp being then released against the action of the spring 13 to allow the rod 16 connected to the feeler 20 to move through the hollow bar 11 ; as the member 14 leaves the stop 17, the rod 16 is immediately coupled to the bar 11 and prevents any movement of the thread guide in the direction of its feeding movement and vibration of the parts due to inertia. A second locking clamp 27 of known construction may be associated with the feeler 20, a socket 24 on the member 19 carrying a locking member 25 engaging a bar 28 fixed to the reciprocating bar 6 coupled to the hollow bar 11 by a member 10 ; this clamp prevents any movement of the thread guide in the direction opposite to that of its feeding movement. The bars 6, 11 are reciprocated by a cam 4 on the driving element 2 gearing with the winding spindle 3 which may also be reciprocated; the thread guide may also be given a supplementary movement to vary the point along the package at which the traverse is reversed.
