Abstract
142,298. Andrew, T., Holt, Ltd., T., and D. R. Cotton Mills, Ltd. May 5, 1919. Building-motions.- To facilitate the unwinding, one after another, of bobbins, cops &c. in succession, and the connexion of the terminal end of the yarn on one bobbin to the beginning end of the yarn on the next succeeding bobbin to be unwound, two or more coils c, d, Fig. 1, of yarn are wound on the lower part of the wooden bobbin or base tube below the part on which the mass of the yarn is wound. In a ring spinning, doubling or like machine, when it is desired to wind coils as above described, the machine is stopped and the driving clutch v of the building-cam o is disconnected by depressing a lever r, so that the cam, being now free, will be rotated by the weight of the ring rail &c. until a projection p on the rotating cam wheel engages with a projection s on the treadle, the cam being brought to rest in a suitable position for giving a short upward and downward movement to the ring rail when the machine is re-started for the purpose. To ensure that the coils shall be wound in the right position, the winding quadrant g is provided with a stop l having two different levels m, m<1> for engagement by the usual catch lever n. When the catch lever n engages with the part m of the stop, the bodies. of the bobbins are being wound, and when with the part m<1>, the ring rail is at a level suitable for winding the coils c, d. The adjustment of the quadrant is effected in the usual manner by a pinion 2 and handle 3.
