Abstract

381,149. Bunch-building motions for machines for spinning or winding yarns. AMBLER, G. H., Chellow Grange, Bradford, and HOLT, Ltd., T., Atlas Iron Works, Whitworth Road, Rochdale. April 23, 1931, Nos. 12023/31 and 5312/32. [Class 120 (ii).] In machines for spinning or winding yarns &c. and comprising a main cam adapted to move a member which effects or controls the movement of a copping rail &c. and an auxiliary cam which takes over the control or operation of the copping rail &c. while a bunch is wound on the bobbin &c. either within or without the mass of yarn &c. ultimately to be wound, the main cam being thereafter brought into action to operate during the ordinary winding, a lever a, rocked by a main cam b, carries a pivoted plate or arm d which tends to turn into a position in which it is engaged by an auxiliary cam f but which is normally turned out of that position. The main heart cam b oscillates the lever a through a bowl c thereon and the lever a contacts with a bowl k<3> adjustable on a second lever k which controls the movement of a copping rail g. The cam b is rotated through a worm wheel m by a worm l adapted to be disengaged therefrom when an eccentric bush in which it is mounted is rotated by the stopmotion mechanism of the machine, the copping rail then rotating the cam until the bowl c engages the hollow portion thereof. By depressing a counterweighted foot-lever j, a bowl j<2> thereon displaces the lever k to the left and allows a weight h secured to the first lever a to swing that lever away from the cam b. The plate d, Fig. 3, pivoted on a stud c<1> near the lower end of the lever a, is thereupon swung upwards by a spring e until its end engages a rising portion D of the auxiliary cam f which is rotatable with the heart cam b and is shaped as shown. On re-engagement of the drive of the cam b, the lever a is moved outwardly from the shaft n of the cams, then inwardly, and when the next hollow E is presented to the corner of the plate d the plate is turned downwards thereby and the main cam b is again allowed to operate, friction between the bowl c and plate d aiding to keep the latter away from the cams. The arm d depresses the copping rail so far that the winding takes place outside the main wound mass. Alternatively, the rail may be raised so that the winding takes place in the wound mass. In a modification, a toothed cam y, Fig. 8, replaces the plate d and is engaged by a toothed wheel z on the shaft m, this arrangement rendering unnecessary the disconnection of the drive of the heart cam.
