Abstract
416,260. Doffing cops and applying tubes in cop-winding machines. REINERS, W., (trading as SCHLAFHORST & CO., W.), 48, Rheyderstrasse, Gladbach, Munich, Germany. Feb. 8, 1934, No. 4223. Convention date, March 31, 1933. [Class 120 (ii).] In cop-winding machines provided with means for doffing cops and applying cop tubes to a number of spindles simultaneously, the spindles and thread guides are automatically disconnected from their driving-means after the cops are wound, and the guides are automatically returned to their starting position, such movement initiating the doffing-operations. The invention is applicable to machines with spindles extending the full length of the tubes, as shown in Fig. 1, or to those wherein the tubes are held between pegs or stub spindles, as shown in Fig. 8. A carrier x for the cops and the tubes, such as described in Specification 385,867, is supported on racks 13 and is adapted to be operated by cams 23, 50 so as to remove full cops from the spindles and to apply empty cop tubes, the thread guide rail 9 being automatically disconnected from the traverse gear at the conclusion of the winding and rapidly moved to wind a few coils of yarn on a part 131 of the spindle. When the bobbins are fully wound a stop 77 on the rail 9 engages a lever 94 and releases a lever 79 which is thereupon moved by a spring 98 and effects the disconnection of (a) the clutch 35 on the spindle-driving shaft 6, (b) the clutch 80 of the shaft 109 of the traverse cam 84, and (c) the clutch 82 of the traverse transmission gear. The disengaging of these clutches permits a spring 100 to rotate the shaft 11 and withdraw the rail 9, so that a binding-layer is wound over the cop and a few turns around the part 131, the spindles continuing to rotate by reason of the momentum of a fly-wheel on the spindle-driving shaft which is ultimately stopped by a brake actuated by the guide bar 5. As the rail 9 returns a stop 36 thereon engages a spring lever 37, 39 and thereby releases a clutch lever 42 permitting a spring 48 to close a clutch 27 whereby the cams 23, 50 are driven. The cam 50, by means of a connecting-rod 46 and crank 52, raises the carrier x so that notches 54 engage the cop tubes on the spindles, and the carrier is then moved forwards to doff the tubes by the cam 23 and a sector 15 which engages the rack 13. The carrier x is moved transversely of the frame to align the empty tubes 3 with the spindles by the inter-action of a spring lever 61 and a fixed roller 58 when the notches 54 pass the ends of the spindles. A stop 45 on the connecting-rod 46 serves to reset the lever 42 and to open the clutch 27. The traverse is effected by a cam 84 and a lever 85 carrying a chain drum 83 connected by a chain 103 to a drum on the shaft 11, which operates the racked thread guide rail 9 by pinions 10. The chain drum 83 is rotated to wind up the chain 103 by means of ratchet and pawl gear operated during each stroke of the lever 85 by an adjustable abutment 92. In machines wherein the cop tubes are supported between stub spindles, the outer spindle is carried in brackets 64 on the carrier rack, and a rod 70 is provided with forks to engage behind the cop tubes and with an arm 75 adapted to engage a stop 76 to release the cops, which fall into the receptacle 55 and are conveyed away by a belt 56, the stop 76 being so adjusted that the yarn extending from the cop to the part 131 is broken.
