Abstract

427,426. Winding yarns. MOORE, B. J., Brynmede, Burbage, near Hinckley, Leicestershire. Oct. 26, 1933, No. 29724. [Class 120 (ii)] In a winding-machine in which the bobbin is rotated by an element frictionally driven from a driving wheel, the driven element is carried in a bracket or arm which is capable of a slight oscillating movement to move the driven element bodily away from the driving wheel and stop the machine when the yarn or thread passing to the bobbin becomes abnormally tensioned, the yarn &c. passing over a lever which turns a cam or equivalent member engaging, and thus moving, the bracket or arm. As shown, the bobbin is supported between a pair of centres 3, 14, the centre 3 being carried by the driven element or wheel 2 and with it being journalled in the bracket or arm 1 pivoted on a fixed shaft 16 and the wheel 2 being held in contact with the driving wheel 4 by a weight 10 at the end of a rod 26 fixed to the bracket. An arm 22 fixed to the shaft 16 has a cam 13 journalled therein with a nose on the cam adjacent the bracket 1 and the lever 7 projecting from the cam carries a guiding roller 8 over which the yarn &c. passes. The lever 7 is normally supported in a raised position by a spring 9 coiled around the journal of the cam 13 with one end secured thereto and the other end engaging one of a series of lugs 24 on a plate 25 projecting from the arm 22 ; when the tension in the yarn a becomes excessive the lever 7 is depressed and the cam is rotated so that the nose thereon engages a screw 11 in the bracket and forces the latter with the wheel 2 away from the wheel 4. The nose of the cam is undercut or shouldered so that after the bracket has moved the undercut engages the screw 11 to lock the bracket and hold the wheel 2 out of contact with the wheel 4. The screw 11 may be replaced by a roller or a springy plate adjustably mounted on the bracket. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 298,873 and 338,291, [both in Class 120 (ii)].
