Abstract

409,285. Traverse mechanism for yarnwinding machines. LEEDHAM, L. H., and WILDT & CO., Ltd., Adelaide Works, Leicester. Oct. 24, 1932, No. 29741. [Class 120 (ii).] In a yarn-winding machine having traverse mechanism comprising a riser spindle 11, a yarn guide extending from, formed in, or operatively connected with a nut member 29, 14 in screw-threaded engagement with the spindle 11, and means to produce relative rotation between the nut member and the spindle means is provided for varying the velocity ratio between the screw and the nut member, e.g. by varying the pitch of the screw thread. The variable pitch screw thread comprises a helical spring 33 coiled round the spindle 11, the upper extremity 30 of which is screw-threaded to accommodate nuts 31, 32 through which the pitch of the spring 33 is varied. The relative rotation between the progression wheel 14 and the spindle 11 is produced solely by ratchet mechanism or by other mechanical means, the arrangement shown being similar to that described in Specification 324,292, [Class 120 (ii)], and comprising a swinging lever 25 having an eye 26 slidable on an adjustable inclined rod 19, the lever 25 oscillating about the spindle 11 as the lifter rail 10 reciprocates, and through the pawl 16 rotating the wheel 14, a boss 29 on the wheel 14 having a sliding slotted plate 28 engaging the spring 33.
