Abstract
424,006. Columns; girders. THOMAS, L. J. G., 150, Lansdowne Road, Cardiff. Aug. 16, 1933, No. 22870. [Class 20 (iv)] Concrete columns or beams are formed of hollow blocks joined together end to end by concrete keys which are positioned by internal concrete wedges. The blocks 1, Fig. 1, are formed with key-shaped apertures 5 through the sides at their ends adapted to receive concrete wedges 7 having bevelled ends, these wedges being maintained in locking positions by internal wedges 10 contacting with the tapered inner sides of the keys or with tapered ledges thereon. The keys may be shaped as shown in Fig. 6, with dovetail-shaped undercut keying projections 7. In the case of a beam, Fig. 7, apertures are formed on one side only of the abutting blocks to receive the keys 7. Concrete grouting may be run in at the joints.
