462,070. Hollow structural bars. PROJECTILE & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., BRIDGES, W., and CHAMBERS, A. J. Dec. 24, 1935, No. 35678. [Class 20 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] A built-up box-section metal girder or frame member, particularly for the side members of motor vehicle chassis frames, of the kind consisting of two channel members A, B assembled with the flanges A<1> of the member A within the flanges B<1> of the member B, has the edge of one or both flanges B<1> formed so that some parts B<3> are in alignment with the web of the member A, and other parts B<2> are cut away to expose the rounded corners of the inner member, which exposed portions are welded to the adjacent set-back edge B<2>. The depth to which the flanges are cut away is preferably equal to the thickness of the material of the member A, and to the radius of curvature of the exposed corners lying between the web and the flanges A<1> of the member A.
