[Class 83 (iv)] [See also Group X] A girder, comprising a web-plate b and a welded flange a, is arranged with the flange channelled at its middle portion, as shown at a<1>, and provided with longitudinal ribs a<2> spaced apart to form a longitudinal recess at the middle of the section for the reception of the edge of the web, the welded joint c being formed between the surface of the web and the adjacent edges of the ribs. The channel form of the flange serves to dispose the welded joint near to the neutral axis of the girder. If desired, the web may be provided with two flanges.
