Convention dates, Nov. 2, 1933 and Nov. 22, 1933. [Class 20 (iv)] A beam comprises a pair of spaced sheet-metal webs 101, 102, as shown in Fig. 5, having shallow corrugations extending transversely of the beam, and a bridging chord member 109 which overlies the ends of the corrugations and also overlies outwardlyextending flanges 106 of side chord members 104, one of which is disposed along the outer face and near the edge of each web. The side chord members 104, which may be of channel section, are arranged with their base portions 105 spot-welded along a substantially straight line, as shown at 108, to the outer faces of the corrugations of the webs 101, 102, The base 105 of each side chord 104 extends slightly beyond the edge of the corresponding webs 101, 102. The bridging chord 109 is provided with a shallow channel central portion and outwardly-extending flanges 110 which overlap the side walls 106 of the side chords 104 and are spot-welded thereto along a straight line, as shown at 111. If desired, the chord member at the lower end of the beam may be of straight flat section. In the modification shown in Fig. 1, the bridging chord 18 overlies the outwardly-extending flanges 17 of angle-shaped chord members S which may be connected together to form a single channel-section member extending across the beam. The sides 12 of the chord members S are spotwelded to the inner faces of the corrugations of the webs. The bridging chord 18 is of shallow channel section, with outwardlyextending flanges 20 which are spot-welded to the flanges 17 of the chord members S. The flanges 20 may have inturned edges 22 for strengthening purposes and for facilitating connection to adjacent structures. The corrugations in the webs may be of channel or triangular cross-section. The beam may be formed from stainless steel.
