Abstract
369,051. Aircraft framework. BUDD MANUFACTURING CO., E. G., 2500, Hunting Park Avenue, Philadelphia, U.S.A. -(Assignees of Ragsdale, E. J. W. ; Curren Terrace, Norristown, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) May 4, 1931, No. 13085. Convention date, May 29, 1930. [Class 4.] A metal truss structure, particularly designed for use in aircraft, comprises opposed channelshaped chords joined together by web members generally of Z-section having their opposite arms secured respectively to the opposite side walls of the channel. As applied to an aeroplane rib, Fig. 1, built up from stainless steel strip, channel-section chords 10, 11, Fig. 6, are joined by inclined Z-section posts 12, Fig. 2, having their opposite arms welded to opposed sides of the channel chords within which they fit. The posts may be flanged at the edges as shown at 13. Upright spar posts 15, Fig. 4, of channel section are placed with the open sides of the channels facing each other and have one side outwardly bent to form a flat seating surface 16. The chords are joined at the trailing edge by welding as shown in Fig. 6 and at the front end by a gusset 17 having a laterally bent tongue forming a recess for the reception of a leading edge stringer. The gusset is strengthened by a recess 18 and a flangedover portion 19.
