Abstract
303,058. Dornier Metallbauten Ges., and Dornier, C. Dec. 27, 1927, [Convention date]. Framework.-Hollow metal beams for aircraft and other structures are formed from seamless tubes of non-uniform thickness by modifying the cross section to a square, rectangular, or other shape. From the non-uniform tube, Fig. 1, are produced sections, such as Fig. 3, having one side of greater thickness to resist larger stresses; from the tube shown in Fig. 5 are formed beams having two thick sides, such as Figs. 6 and 7; from the tube shown in Fig. 9 is produced the beam section shown in Fig. 10, having two thick and two thin uniform sides; and from the tube shown in Fig. 11 is produced the beam section, Fig. 12, having increased thickness at the angles. The sides of the beams may be recessed inwardly at intervals as shown in Fig. 3, or may be formed with openings giving access to screws or rivets, and with inturned edges. The recesses and openings may be staggered on opposite sides. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also triangular, rectangular, and hexagonal section beams formed from circular tubes of uniform thickness. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
