230,213. Pollard, H. J., and Bristol Aeroplane Co., Ltd. Jan. 8, 1924. Framework. - Light metal spars and beams are formed from two corrugated booms with flanged edges 13, 14 united by two symmetricallv curved web members 15 having flat vertical portions 17 and horizontal flanges 18, the beam being strengthened against shearing stress by vertical posts 19 riveted to the flanges at intervals along the spar. The posts 19 shown are of channel-section, the sides of the posts being outwardly bent and riveted to the flanges. A modification is described in which these side posts are extended above and below the booms for the attachment of other members, the sides of the posts being made deeper where they enter between the flanges 18. The lengths of the flat portions 17, 18 are respectively not greater than twenty and twelve times the thickness of the metal used. Specification 223,670 is referred to.
