Abstract

220,383. Mooney, D. J. May 17, 1923. Framework.-Metal spars, girders &c. of box form for aircraft are constructed with corrugated flanged strips b to which are riveted channel strips c, with sides and base longitudinally bent, the two composite booms thus formed being joined together by webs e shaped at their edges to fit the sides or bases of the channel strips. Deep spars are formed by attaching additional channel strips g, Fig. 7, to the strips c so as to form a cellular structure. Other forms are described only in the shape and number of the corrugations.
