Abstract

Framework.-Metal spars, longerons, girders &c. are composed of tubular booms a and strip webs c connected together by bolts passing through the interior of the tubular booms, which are shaped so as to resist the resultant pressure. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the booms a are shaped at b to fit the overlapping portions of the webs c, and take the pressure when the connecting bolts d are screwed up. The booms and webs may be varied in form to suit requirements, and distance pieces may be threaded upon the bolts. According to the modification shown n Fig. 4, the flanges l may be bent inwardly and the webs secured by bolts d passing through the sides of the tubes a, and through the flanges l. According to the Provisional Specification the webs may be placed at intervals or perforated for lightness.
