Framework. - Fittings inserted at intervals along a box girder spar, longeron, rib, or like member for stabilizing the webs against end load are in the form of diaphragms or posts with tubular or channel members having corner pieces c secured between the edges of the webs p and of the booms o. Fig. 6 shows the application of a diaphragm a, with side edges bent twice at right angles to provide channel members b, to the girders described in Specifications 141,141 and 194,114, and Fig. 7 shows the application to the girder described in Specification 161,063. The diaphragm and the edges of the channel members may be bent inwards and riveted together as shown at e, Fig. 2. The diaphragm may be stiffened by corrugations or embossments, or by riveting it to a bent or embossed plate. Alternatively, the diaphragm may be dispensed with, and the channel members b may then be connected by channel strips h, Fig. 4, or n, Fig. 5. To facilitate the. assembling, the corner pieces c may be provided with extensions i, Fig. 4, adapted to be bolted together at k, and to be cut away at l, if desired, when the riveting is completed.
