Abstract
180,074. Mooney, D. J., Brown, E. E., and Emby, D. H. Feb. 23, 1921. Framework. - A hollow sheet - metal spar is formed of more than four parts and has booms consisting of corrugated channels a, connected at the bottom of their troughs to plain channels d, and webs which are connected together near the neutral axis, and are connected to the booms by fixing their edges between the edges of the channels as shown at e. The webs may be made in two or more pieces joined together at the neutral axis by flanges h, Fig. 1, or lap joints, or by flanges k, Fig. 9, or by both. The flanges k may serve as supports for side posts placed at intervals along the spar. The booms may be bent outwards, as shown in Fig. 9. The webs may be connected together at two points, so as to include a hollow part between, as described in Specification 151,352, or they may be connected by narrow curved strips which cross alternately, or by longitudinally curved strips which are arranged inside and outside the webs and together form a hollow cylindrical part.
