Abstract

469,893. Structural members. LOWE, J. G. W. Feb. 3, 1936, No. 3235. [Class 20 (ii)] Tubular structural members are formed of a plurality of elements welded together longitudinally, each element comprising alternate thick and thin portions so disposed that the thick portions are at a greater distance from the longitudinal axis of the member than the thin portions. Several shapes of elements are shown, that in Fig. 2 being welded to a similar element to form the member shown in Fig. 10, the thick portions lying at a greater distance from the neutral axis than the thin portions. The elements may be provided with bolt and lightening holes, as shown in Fig. 17, those on opposed elements being in staggered relationship to provide a greater selection for the connection of the members to each other and to other members.
