Abstract

544,943. Girders. HILLS PATENT GLAZING CO., Ltd., and PODMORE, L. S. Sept. 28, 1940, Nos. 14680/40, 2977/41, 2978/41 and 2980/41. [Class 20 (ii)] A metal beam or strut comprises a pair of parallel longitudinals a, b interconnected and braced by double sinuous or zig-zag staggered lacings c, d produced from metal strip, each being of a width substantially equal to half the width of a longitudinal. Battens a may be secured by welding or otherwise across the longitudinals, if desired, at each of the connections with the lacings. The longitudinals may be of T-section as in Fig. 3 or of H-section. Box-like section beams comprise two beams f of the kind previously described side by side, the longitudinals at top and bottom being secured together by transverse battens, or, as shown in Fig. 6, by sinuous metal strips disposed above the upper longitudinals and below the lower ones.
