Abstract
470,430. Openwork structural members. BRATTHWAITE & CO. ENGINEERS, Ltd., and ANDERSON, N. L. March 25, 1936, No. 8883. [Class 20 (ii)] Girders, columns, and struts are formed of longitudinally disposed members 1 of angle, curved, or other sections with at least two free edges, united by means of web crossplates 5 with flanges 2, the ends 3 of which are welded to the adjacent spaced edges of the longitudinals. The cross-plates 5 may have have straight edges 11 across the structure or may, as shown in Fig. 3, have extensions 12 into the corners of angle-section longitudinal members 6. A roof arch comprises a column 1 having a foot-plate 16, and a beam 14 with a bearing plate 17, the two being joined by an inclined plate 18 at the bend. Medial gussetplates 19 may be welded to each member at the joint. The depth of the beam member 14 varies with the bending moment to which it is exposed.
