[Class 20 (iv)] A single-span roof comprises an arched skin 1 of corrugated sheet - metal having the corrugations thereof extending transversely of the arch, tension members 5 also extending transversely of the arch for taking up the side thrusts of the arch, stringers 7 extending longitudinally of, and connected to, the skin 1, and diagonal stiffeners 6 which are disposed between the tension members 5 and the skin 1 and are attached to the latter at the points of connection of the same and the stringers 7. The skin 1 is supported at the ends by columns or walls 4, and it may be held against lateral movement by girders 3 or by connecting the tension members 5 to the outside longitudinal strips of the skin 1. Gusset plates 8, Fig. 3, each of which extends over plurality of corrugations of the skin, are provided at the points of connection of the diagonal stiffeners 6 and the skin 1, and gusset plates may also be provided where the skin 1, girders 3, and tension members 5 are connected together. The tension members 5 and stringers 7 may be of U- or I-cross-section, and the diagonal stiffeners 6 may be of flat section. The various members may be connected together by screws, rivets or welding.
