Abstract

501,414. Mine supports. GERLACH, K. Aug. 26, 1937, No. 23453. Convention date, Oct. 7, 1936. [Class 20 (ii)] A section-iron is formed with a flange portion having projections thereon to form webs, these projections being inset from the edges of the bar section, and such section-irons may be united to form box-sections for use as mine supports or pillars. The main portion 1 has two inset web portions 2 and two such bars may be united by welding together the abutting edges of the web portions, as shown in Fig. 1. The sectioniron may be in the form of an I-section and such sections are united by welding along the abutting edges of the flanges 1, as shown in Fig. 2, the web 2 being Inset from the edge of the flanges in each section. In another form, the hollow section is formed as shown in Fig. 3, by welding together two angle-sections, the portions 3 of one flange of each section overhanging the other flange 2.
