868,598. Railway rails. ANDRIANNE, J. L. C. Aug. 13, 1958 [Nov. 4, 1957], No. 26061/58. Class 104 (2). A hollow flat-bottomed rail is characterized by the thickness e of the centre portion 3 1 of its sole 3 being less than the thickness E of the side portions 3 2 thereof, and in nine of the ten embodiments (not all shown) the inner face of the sole is an arc whose centre O lies on the vertical axis of symmetry a, b (see Fig. 1) above the horizontal neutral axis c, d. The head 1 of the rail is also thinner at its centre than at its edges 1 1 , 1 2 from which extend the two side elements 2 1 , 2 2 of the webs 2. These side elements may be inclined to the vertical (Fig. 1) or parallel thereto and may be reinforced intermediately of their length as in Fig. 6. The invention includes X-shaped rails such as those shown in Figs. 4 and 5 and also forms (not shown) incorporating a longitudinal groove in the rail head 1.
