Abstract

Framework; planes, construction of. -A built-up girder for aeroplane wings is of triangular cross-section having a height equal to the full depth of the wing and comprises a series of triangular frames secured together. Fig. 1 shows a section through a wing rib built around a triangular frame a, b, c, the main supporting girder comprising a series of such frames connected together at their apices by transverse members and cross-bracing. The rib may be built around the girder by means of members f, g, or they may be built around triangular frames placed over the girder. The members a, b, c may be of angle or U-section alloy known under the registered Trade Mark " Duralumin." According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), solid plates forming ribs may be introduced into the girder as it is built up, or ribs shaped as shown in Fig. 5 (Cancelled) may be secured with their openings e<0> over the triangular frames a, b, c. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
