Abstract
609,276. Nail-receiving metal beams. STEVENS, A. H. (Great Lakes Steel Corporation). March 11, 1946, No. 7497. [Class 20(ii)] An I-beam comprises two channel members 10, 11, Fig. 1, with interlocking ribs 17, 18 on the web portions, each pair of side flanges 12, 14; 13, 15 being connected by a grooved thin metal strip 21; or the I-beam may be formed from a single strip. of sheet metal to provide laminated web and flanges as shown in Fig. 4, the flanges being provided with slit grooves 119 and the free edges being interfolded as indicated at 115. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the continuous nail-guiding groove 23 projects into the space 20 between the web portions of the channels, while in the form shown in Fig. 4, the slit grooves 119 are spaced along the centre line of the flanges. In both forms the web portions may be corrugated and are spaced apart at least adjacent to the flanges.
