Abstract

657,839. Floors. ARNOLD, J. C. (Robertson Co., H. H.). March 2, 1949, No. 5773. [Classes 20(ii), 20(iv) and 87(i)] A floor comprises a number of multicellular units 10 erected side by side and end to end on a supporting framework, each unit comprising an upper metal sheet 12 which may be flat, as shown, or corrugated and lower corrugated metal sheets 14, 16 forming spaced and longitudinally extending cells 18 which form wiring ducts. Offset portions 34, 36, 40 of a depth equal to the thickness of the sheet are formed in the sides and top of the corrugations at the leading edge 26 of each lower sheet and the bases of the corrugations of these edges are cut as shown at 44 whereby the trailing edge 28 of one unit overlies the leading edge of the adjacent sheet, the arrangement providing smooth and flush interior cell surfaces at the joints to facilitate the drawing of the wires through the cells. The under surfaces at the joints are likewise flush to rest evenly on the supporting girders &c. The longitudinal edges of the units are provided with co-operating flanges 22, 24. As shown the upper sheet is somewhat shorter than the lower whereby access may be had to the ducts in the gap between the ends of the upper sheet; this gap is subsequently closed by a plane strip.
