Abstract

522,152. Air-raid shelters. PATTERSON, W., and KERRISON, O. C. Dec. 1, 1938, No. 35067. [Class 20 (i)] An air-raid shelter comprises a base frame formed of longitudinals and transversals, and arcuate side sections adapted to fit into slots or grooves in the longitudinals of the base frame and be self supporting and to be connected together at their upper ends. The base frame is built up of longitudinals d which may be of flanged plate,. angle, channel or other section and connected by transversals b of rods or bars with hooked shaped ends, or with screwed ends. The longitudinals are recessed or slotted to receive the bent-over ends e of the arcuate side plates c, which may be plain or corrugated, and the upper ends are connected by bolts or by turned-over edges and a pin f forming a hinge connection. The lateral ends of the plates form overlapping joints. The ends are closed by plates e leaving apertures for doors, and the shelter is covered with earth k.
