Abstract
601,674. Compound sheet materials. GABO, N. Jan. 23, 1945, No. 1781. [Class 140] [Also in Groups X and XXIII] A composite metal, plywood, plastic &c. plate for roofs, ceilings &c. comprises a pair of opposed sheets having integral or applied pyramidal or other protuberances, the protuberances of one sheet being accommodated between the protuberances of the opposite sheet and interlocking therewith so as to prevent separation after assembly. The. opposed sheets 11a, 11b, Fig. 1, may have squarebased pyramids 12a, 12b pressed from the sheets or formed separately, e.g. by casting or moulding, and secured to the sheets. Projections 13 are formed on the sloping edges of the pyramids of one sheet so that these may shape into corresponding recesses 14 in the pyramids of the opposite sheet when the sheets are assembled to form the composite plate. The pyramids may be of truncated form and may have corrugated sloping faces. According to a modification, one sheet is formed with parallel dovetail grooves 17, Fig. 6, into which longitudinal corrugated strips 18, Fig. 7, are slid, the strips being formed from blanks, Fig. 8, having alternate wide and narrow sections corresponding to the width of the dovetail grooves at the base and at approximately mid-height. Tongues 20 on the strip 18 engage in longitudinal corrugations 19 in the walls of the grooves 17. A strengthening net of strands 21, 22 may be applied to take up a position in which it is retained by the projections and recesses 13, 14 on the individual sheets. The whole structure may be enclosed by flat or curved sheets.
