648,611. Pallets for, handling loads. ELECTRO-HYDRAULICS, Ltd., OWEN, E. W. B., and SHARP, C. W. March 2, 1948, No. 6611. [Class 78 (iv)] A pallet comprises metal slats 2 disposed above and below wooden cross members 1 to which the ends of the slats are jointed, said slat ends being formed to receive hard wood plugs. Each slat is bent from sheet metal to form channels 3, 5 which contain the plugs (not shown) through which the fixing nails or screws 7 are driven into the members 1. The longitudinal edges of the slats are curled at 9 and the plugs are suitably cut away to allow the edges 9 to flex to a limited amount. In a modification, not shown, the metal members are in the form of corrugated sheets.
