[Also in Division E1] Blocks 1 of expanded polystyrene, compressed wood wool, chip-board or straw-board have a grid-work of slots on one major face, in which are fixed a grid-work of flat reinforcing strips, e.g. 6, of a harder material, e.g. hard plastics or fibre-board, and a set of parallel slots, or a second grid-work of slots, on the opposed face, in which strips are also fixed. The blocks may be used singly, with slotted end-blocks 10 (Fig. 2, not shown), fitted over the ends of the strips which project from the ends of the blocks, or as double blocks, as shown, with common spacing strips 13. The slots in the blocks can be staggered in opposed faces, or aligned, and the strips are slotted at points of strip intersection. Additional strips, e.g. 23, may be employed to join adjacent blocks, and all the strips may project from the faces of the blocks, as shown, or lie flush therewith, or lie below the surfaces thereof.
