Abstract

409,323. Mats &c. GREEN, J. SINGLETON-, 138, Endike Lane, Hull. Oct. 27, 1932, No. 30146. [Class 142 (iv).] A mesh for reinforcing the structural layers or surfaces of roads, floors and the like formed of concrete, asphalt, rubber, tar macadam, or other material, comprises a plurality of metal, wood, or other strips 1, 2, 3, which are slotted transversely and connected together by means of the slots so as to form an assembly consisting of triangular cells. When used as a surface reinforcement, the cells may be filled with wood blocks, mosaic, terrazzo, or other suitable material. The mesh is formed of three sets of strips provided with slots 1<a>, 2<a>, 3<a>, and interlocked as shown in Fig. 2. The strips may be held together by wire or by welding at the intersecting points. The strips may be of plain flat form, or they may taper in thickness from one edge to the other, or either edge may be thickened or bent. The cross section of the strips may be thickened centrally of the depth. One or both edges of the strips may be grooved or serrated. The strips may also be perforated or provided with projections stamped out of the strips, and they may be corrugated either longitudinally or vertically. The strips need not all be of the same depth. The meshwork may be mounted inside a frame formed of strip material. Adjacent aligned strips may be connected together by bars, wires or other members passing through holes in the strips and bent around or hooked to engage the strips. A strip 14, Fig. 6, may, for example, be provided with hooked ends 15 which are slotted to engage corresponding slots in the strips 1.
