Abstract
637,844. Metal structural members; girders. STEEL FABRICATIONS (CARDIFF), Ltd., and PALMER, D. A. Jan. 2, 1948, No. 108. [Classes 20 (ii) and 20 (iv)] A metal beam or other structural member comprises a pair of sheet metal elements each comprising a web and at least one flange, the elements being secured together web to web and each web being formed along its length with integral embossments of divergent channel section. The elements 11, Fig. 4, have webs 10, flanges 12and further flanges 13 parallel to the web, so that when a pair of elements are secured .web to web, as by welding at 17, longitudinal recesses are formed for wooden members 18 to which floors and ceilings may be secured. The webs are embossed to form integral divergentsided channel sections 15, 16, these channels extending throughout the greater part of the length of the element in repeated diamond pattern, Fig. 1, leaving plain web end-portions 21. Holes 26 are formed at the centres of the diamond patterns for the passage of service piping &c.
