Abstract
577,512. Metal beams. STEEL CEILINGS, Ltd., and PENKALA, E. May 24, 1944, Nos. 10035 and 17596. [Classes 20 (ii) and 20 (iv)] A composite metal beam comprises two flange members 11, 12 which may be flat sheets or, as shown, may be sinuous or corrugated and which are spaced apart by hollow web members 13, 14 each of which comprises channel section plates 15, 16 having extensions 17 bent as shown to engage the end of the flange members whilst transverse bearers 24 for the flange members are supported on the shoulders of the channel plates 15, 16. Diagonal stays 32 may be provided. When two or more of the beams are placed side by side the upper flange plates may form the base of a floor and the lower flange plates the base of a ceiling. Wooden or other filling pieces 31 may be positioned between adjacent beams. In a modification each flange member comprises two corrugated sheets arranged to form tubular passages.
