Abstract

1358261 Beams ACROW (ENGS) Ltd 10 June 1971 [16 June 1970 1 Feb 1971] 29214/70 and 3612/71 Headings E1K and E1S A structural beam for supporting concrete formwork comprises upper and lower chords 22, 24 interconnected along at least part of the beam length by a web 4, 10 or 34, 36, 38 which is of undulate form with spaced lengths 36 interconnecting the chords on one side being joined with transverse parts 38 to alternating adjacent spaced lengths 34 on the other side similarly interconnecting the chords. The parts 38 may be normal to or at an angle of 45‹ to the longitudinal direction of the beam. The upper and lower chords are either provided with apertures 40 or are each formed by two parallel spaced box section bars 2', 2" to allow wall ties or other elements to pass through the apertures 40 or between the bars 2', 2". The web may be present only in the end portions of the beam and the centre portions may be provided with staggered sinuous lattice bars 28, 30 on each side welded to channels 26 formed in the chords. The undulating web is welded to the chords and may be of varying pitch. The beam may be formed with a camber providing a slightly greater depth in the centre than at the ends to compensate for deflection under load.
