Abstract

1536327 Floor beams EVANS BROS (CONCRETE) Ltd 8 Dec 1976 [28 Jan 1976] 03210/76 Heading E1W A composite floor beam comprises a lattice truss built up of welded steel rod comprising three spaced parallel upper longitudinal elements 1, chord element 2 spaced below the intermediate upper element, diagonal braces 3 and triangular loops in lateral planes at the junction of braces 3 with the longitudinal elements 1 and 2. All the elements are enclosed in cast concrete in a shape which provides an elongate horizontal deck 5, a vertical longitudinal web 6 and a series of lateral webs 7. Areas 8 of the concrete forming web 6 are thinner than the remaining parts of the concrete to enable apertures to be formed in the web for the passage of cables, pipes &c. If the direction of inclination of the braces 10 is reversed so that the concrete is in compression the metal reinforcements may be omitted.
