Abstract

473,613. Girders. JAKLIN, H. April 16, 1936, No. 10937. [Classes 20 (ii) and 20 (iv)] A girder or beam of T-section comprises a web plate 1 having one edge shaped to form a hollow projection 2 adapted to be slid endwise to engage a shaped groove in a flange plate 3, so that the flange plate bears on three sides of the projection. The plates may be of metal or compressed material and if of metal the edges of the flange plate may be welded to the web. In the case of an I-section beam, both edges of the web plate are shaped to engage corresponding grooves in flange plates. A hollow girder, Fig. 2, comprises two web plates with shaped edges engaging corresponding grooves in flange plates, so that an undercut groove 7 is formed between the grooves in each flange plate. Girder sections may be joined by the web plate of one section engaging the groove 7 of the adjacent section. Strengthening bars may be used in the hollow web projections or in the undercut grooves 7, and in the case of metal beams may be welded therein.
