Abstract

A pigment, for example ultramarine, is purified by subjecting it in the form of a pulp to a flotation operation in the presence of a frothing agent. The pigment is preferably ground and subjected to agitation in a flotation cell, for example a cell of the type described in Specification 393,850, with a frothing agent containing cresylic acid, preferably cresylic acid mixed with creosote and with kerosene or pine oil or both kerosene and pine oil. Dispersing agents such as starch, sodium sulphate, sodium silicate, or sulphuric acid and soda ash may be added.
