Abstract

In the concentration of ores by froth flotation an agent is added to the pulp the molecules of which consist of two hydrocarbon radials each directly connected to a sulphur atom, the sulphur atoms being connected to one another. Ethyl disulphide, iso-amyldisulphide, n-amyldisulphide, phenyl disulphide, and cresyl disulphide are referred to. One or more of these agents may be used in conjunction with usual frothing agents, e.g. cresol; cresol and calcium oxide; pine oil; pine oil, sulphuric acid or sodium carbonate, and paraffin gas distillate.
