407,168. Extractions or treatment of vegetable fibre for making paper &c. GRATZE, E. V. HAYES-, 5, Eastbury Court, Kensington, London. Jan. 18, 1933, No. 1635. [Class 96.] Vegetable fibres, e.g. coir, coir waste, sisal hemp &c. are extracted or softened with a reagent, or aqueous solution thereof e.g. of pH not less than 7.5, obtained by electrical ionization of a neutralized sulphonated oil e.g. as described in Specification 363,651, .[Group XXXVI]. The fibrous material may then be bleached. Pith &c. surrounding the fibres of coir &c. may be used as a filler for thick paper, millboard &c. The Provisional Specification describes the use of a neutralized sulphonated oil electrically ionized and /or ozonized.
