410,421. Treating jute in preparation for spinning. CHELSEA FIBRE MILLS, 1155, Manhattan Avenue, Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A. Nov. 25, 1933, No. 32970. Convention date, Dec. 7, 1932. [Class 120 (iii).] In the preparation of jute for spinning a relatively slow combing, drawing and straightening of the softened jute fibres is interposed between the softening and carding stages ; this treatment reducing the formation of slubs and permitting the omission of the breaker card. The jute fibres are softened in a roller machine 12 and are then fed by an apron 24 to the combing and straightening machine 22 which resembles a hard fibre breaker but in which the draft is reduced to three or four to one, the straightened sliver being formed into a roll 46 or collected in a can. The roll form is convenient for conditioning treatment after which the slivers are fed to a breaker card if desired or more usually straight to the finisher card and then to drawing or roving frames.
