412,861. Preparing cotton for spinning. VOHS, N., 8, Kaiserstrasse, Munchen, and GILLJAM, H. K. J., 19, Wilhelm Straterstrasse, Rheydt, both in Gladbach, Rhineland, Germany. Dec. 15, 1933, No. 35309. Convention date, Dec. 15, 1932. [Classes 120 (i) and 120 (iii).] In preparing cotton for spinning the loose material from the cleaning machines is delivered by the automatic weighing device of a hopper feeder 9 on to the feed apron of a preliminary carding machine 10 of about double the working width of a flat card, and comprising a cylinder 1, feed rollers 5, a lickerin, working rollers 2, a cleaning roller 4 and a doffer 3, the web 11 produced thereon being divided and the slivers coiled in cans 12 or wound into cheeses. A number of these slivers, e.g., twelve, are united on a sliver lap machine 13 to form a lap 14, a number e.g. four of which may be fed together to the flat card 15. Six slivers 16 may be fed together to the drawing frame.
