Abstract
993, 495. Removing foreign matter from fibre webs; drafting apparatus. T. M. M. (RESEARCH) Ltd. Nov. 1, 1963 [Aug. 7, 1962], No. 30256/62. Headings DID and DIN. Vegetable impurities are removed from cotton fibres by drafting carded slivers side by side so forming them into a web, applying pressure to the web to crush the impurities, and condensing the web to form a sliver. The drafting apparatus preferably consists of three pairs of rollers with a pressure bar CD arranged in the second drafting zone for the slivers to pass under. The web E of drafted fibres is passed at full width to the smooth, metal-surfaced pressure rollers F1, F2 and is afterwards condensed at the guide G. In another form of the apparatus, the pressure rollers may effect the draft and may constitute the last pair of drafting rollers. The top pressure roller F1 is mounted at one end in a bearing that is pivoted and at the other in a bearing that has a rectangular terminal portion which mates with a slot in the frame of the machine. This roller incorporates magnets for increasing the pressure between the rollers. In addition, loading springs may be employed.
