407,889. Oil engines. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Sept. 29, 1933. No. 26886. Convention date, Sept. 29, 1932. [Class 7 (iii).] In a compression ignition engine in which fuel is injected into the compression space in one or more jets which are transverse to the cylinder axis and extend, if undeformed, into the space swept out by the piston at the end of the compression stroke, fuel is injected before the air reaches the ignition temperature and towards the end of the compression stroke. The piston head 2 is formed with radial grooves 5 which co-operate with a domed cylinder top to form spaces 7 of substantially pear or drop shape which correspond to the form of the fuel jets. The liquid fuel is injected through a nozzle having several orifices and the jets develop fully before combustion commences.
