Abstract
402,990. Liquid-break switches. INTERNATIONAL GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Inc., 120, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.- (Assignees of Allgemeine Elektricitõts-Ges.; 2, Friedrich Karl-Ufer, Berlin.) April 20, 1933, No. 11589. Convention date, April 20, 1932. Addition to 402,927. [Class 38 (v).] In the liquid-break switch described in the parent Specification, in front of the orifice of the extinguishing chamber and within the expansion chamber is provided a partition inclined to the axis of the extinguishing chamber and having an opening for the passage of the contact rod, the partition serving to divert the vapour and liquid during the opening of the switch into the expansion chamber. As shown in Fig. 1 in which the expansion chamber 2 is mounted at right angles to the extinguishing chamber 1 a partition 5 is formed within the expansion chamber inclined at 45‹ above the entrance to the extinguishing chamber so that the vapour and liquid emerging from the latter during the opening of the switch is diverted as shown by the lines into the expansion chamber. The contact rod emerges through holes 6, 4 in the partition and the wall of the expansion chamber and in view of the diversion of the gas and liquid only a small portion of the gas produced by switching emerges into the atmosphere. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), openings may be arranged from the space behind the partition into the expansion chamber so that the escape of gas into the atmosphere is still further reduced.
