April 25, 1932, No. 11844. Convention date, April 25, 1931. [Class 38 (v).] In a liquid-break switch having a lower compartment 2 containing the fixed contact 5 and the conducting or semi-cond u c t i n g switching liquid and an upper compartment 3 serving as an expansion and condensing chamber joined by a neck portion through which the movable contact 6 is drawn, the walls of the lower compartment are of metal to withstand the pressure at break and the upper are of insulating material or are lined with insulating material. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the two chambers constitute a single metal structure ; the upper chamber is lined with and covered by insulating material 7 and the neck portion is lined with insulating material. In a modification the upper chamber of insulating material is a separate structure with a neck fitting into the lower metal chamber. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, the upper chamber has an additional flange portion 11 to ensure a tight fit on the lower portion and the movable pin contact is guided by a structure, 15 mounted on the upper chamber. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 211,022, [Class 38 (v), Electric switches &c.], and 354,890.
