Abstract
408,564. High-tension switches. AKT.- GES. BROWN, BOVERI, ET CIE, Baden, Switzerland. July 6, 1932, No. 19148. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, July 7, 1932]. [Class 38 (v).] In an "expansion " switch the contact - pin is withdrawn from the fixed contact through a number of liquid - filled pressure-developing chambers in series so that extinguishing liquid is forced into the arc both towards the fixed contact and towards the moving contactpin. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, one additional liquid filled expansion chamber d is employed depending into the main chamber a and formed with orifices for the passage of the pin contact c into engagement with the fixed contact b. When the pin is withdrawn, the arc vaporizes the liquid, for example, water, in its neighbourhood and extinguishing medium is forced from the chamber d towards both ends of the arc, and, at the upper end, into the condensation space y. Two auxiliary pressure chambers d, one above the other, may be used and a space may be left between them communicating with the main chamber by means of lateral openings n, Fig. 3.
