Abstract

388,285. High-tension switches. AKT.- GES. BROWN, BOVERI, ET CIE, Baden, Switzerland. July 6, 1932, No. 19147. Convention date, July 6, 1931. [Class 38 (v).] In circuit-breakers in which the arc is extinguished by a blast of fluid under pressure multiple movable hollow contact members are used so as to obtain two breaks in series, and in the closed position the contacts are bridged by a fixed self-adjusting intermediate contact. The movable contact members a, b may be arranged side by side but in the arrangement they are in line within the pressure chamber o and are connected with differential pistons f, g working in the ends of the chamber and within enlarged extensions h, i thereof. The intermediate contact c may consist of two conical plungers mounted in a housing d extending across the chamber and formed with pressureequalizing holes. The contact c, however, may be a single contact mounted on a flexible housing such as d.. When pressure is supplied to the chamber the pistons are moved apart and the hollow contact-members separated from the fixed contacts so that a blast of fluid may pass across the arc and out through the nozzle orifices. The switch is closed by applying fluid pressure through the pipes n.
